Contemporary 4/4P, 5, 6

  • Contemporary is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres, including modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

    • Level 4/4P: Ages 10–14 (5th grade minimum; placement required)

    • Level 5: Ages 13–18 (8th grade minimum; placement required)

    • Level 6: Ages 14–18 (10th grade minimum; placement required)

    • Solid color leotard

      • Prima teachers prefer leotards without large mesh cutouts in the midriff and/or down the front center.

    • Ballet pink (a light flesh-colored pink) tights or solid color leggings

    • Ballet shoes or bare feet (depending on teacher preference)

    • Hair in a bun

      • Students must have their hair up in a slicked-back ballet bun (or off the face and neck for those with shorter hair).
